Mrs. Winston’s Closes Ocean Park Location

Locations still open at the Water Garden and Century City

By Sam Catanzaro

Mrs. Winston’s, a popular eatery known for its build-your-own salads, has closed its longtime location at 3150 Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica. However, fans of Mrs. Winston’s need not fret, as the restaurant still has locations open in Century City and the Water Garden in Santa Monica.

Mrs. Winston’s Green Grocery first opened its doors in 1987, at a time when local farmers markets were scarce and big grocery stores did not offer organic options. Ed Winston, drawing on his knowledge and experience from his years at Ralph’s Grocery, recognized the need for quality local produce and launched a farm stand-style market in Santa Monica.

Ed didn’t have to look far to find his business partner – his mother, Mrs. Winston, joined him with her enthusiasm and keen eye for detail, exemplifying the warm, local atmosphere of their new store, Mrs. Winston’s. One of Mrs. Winston’s passions was fresh greens, and she insisted that the store have a salad bar. This quickly became a customer favorite, earning the title of LA’s Best Salad Bar by LA Magazine, as customers sought healthy fast food options amidst their busy lives.

Over the past three decades, Mrs. Winston’s has weathered food fads and changes in the industry, always focusing on offering locally sourced organic products and the healthiest and freshest ingredients. The eatery specializes in custom salads, sandwiches, smoothies, juices, and delicious soups, all made in-house daily by dedicated teams. Despite the changing landscape of the food industry, Mrs. Winston’s Green Grocery has stood the test of time.
