Arrest made in Tongva Park Tuesday night
By Sam Catanzaro
Two victims were robbed at knifepoint while they were on the Santa Monica Pier this week.
The incident took place around 11 p.m. on April 4, according to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD). The victims were a man and a woman. The suspects, all males, took a female victim’s purse and fled eastbound up the Pier ramp.
Responding SMPD officers were able to track the victim’s cell phone to Tongva Park and established a perimeter around the park, leading to the apprehension of three suspects. Two suspects were taken into custody as they attempted to exit the perimeter, while a third suspect, who had already made it outside of the perimeter, was apprehended when observed loitering nearby. The fourth suspect was found hiding on the western edge of the park. Additional evidence from the crime was located in the park and on the suspects. All four suspects were positively identified by the victims and were taken into police custody without incident.
The Santa Monica Police Department is urging anyone with any additional information about this crime to call the non-emergency dispatch line at (310) 458-8491 or the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427.
