Los Angeles Rams Continue Poor Start to the Season With Week Two Loss at Arizona Cardinals

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay appears to have been somewhat humbled following his side’s 10-41 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at the State Farm Stadium. The loss comes after they had been defeated by the Detroit Lions in overtime in their season opener, leaving them 0-2 for 2024.

There appear to be some parallels with 2023, when the Rams started the campaign poorly, finding themselves 3-6 before turning things around to get to the postseason, where the Lions beat them in the Wild Card playoffs.

McVay took over at the Rams in 2017 and led them to a Super Bowl following an impressive 2021 season, which concluded with a finale win over the Cincinnati Bengals on home soil, but they have struggled to get close to the form achieved during that triumphant campaign.

Fans of the Rams will be hoping their team can quickly recover, with the San Francisco 49ers heading to the SoFi Stadium next time around, and if they are particularly confident of the tide turning, they may want to back their team to make an impact deep into the postseason. With that in mind a visit to www.cbssports.com/betting/apps/ would aid their pursuit of the best betting options out there, as well as exclusive offers and promotions.

The manner of his side’s loss to the Cardinals clearly hit McVay hard, with his post-match comments proving very revealing,

“This was one of those days that was really humbling, and, you know, fortunately, we haven’t felt many of these things, but tough times don’t last, tough people do,”

“There’s a lot of things that have gone not necessarily according to plan through the first couple weeks, but today was not something that I anticipated.”

“I’m not even worried about 0-2. I’m worried about how we play better football,”

“That was not a good product today. That was not something that we are OK with.”

“There’s nothing positive about it,”

“The only positive thing is that this game is over now, and we can move forward.” McVay added.

The Cardinals took the Rams apart from the off, scoring touchdowns from each of their first three possessions, opening up a 24-3 halftime lead. The loss also saw wide receiver Cooper Kupp suffer a foot injury that looks fairly serious.

Kupp missed a total of 13 games over the past two seasons, and a pattern is certainly developing. Though their next game is against last season’s defeated Super Bowl side, the 49ers, there is a sense that another loss could prove terminal, even at this early stage of the season.

Jonah Jackson and John Johnson III are also suffering injuries that put them on IR, with cornerback Darious Williams already there waiting for them.

Clearly, this shortens the options for quarterback Matthew Stafford, with Puka Nacua also out for anywhere between five and seven weeks after he suffered a knee injury in their opening-week loss to the Lions.
