The Program Has Distributed Approximately $3 Million to Local Law Enforcement Agencies Statewide
The Santa Monica Police Department has been awarded an $80,229 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) aimed at reducing underage alcohol consumption and related harm in the community.
The grant, part of ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program, strengthens local law enforcement efforts by combining resources with ABC agents, who specialize in alcohol-related laws.
“This is important to the Santa Monica Police Department in order to increase protection for youth and address crime at problem locations,” said Santa Monica Police Chief Ramon Batista in a release.
Created in 1995, the APP program aims to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors, curb intoxicated patrons, and address other criminal activities tied to alcohol consumption, such as illegal solicitation and drug-related offenses.
The funds will specifically target problem locations within Santa Monica where underage drinking or alcohol-related crimes are most prevalent.
The APP program, which has distributed approximately $3 million to local law enforcement agencies statewide, includes Santa Monica as one of nearly 50 California law enforcement agencies that received a grant through the program.
