An Investigation is Underway
A shooting occurred at Santa Monica College’s Center for Media and Design campus on Monday night, leaving one employee injured. The incident took place around 9:50 p.m. at the campus located at 1660 Stewart Street, according to the Santa Monica College (SMC) administration and Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD).
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the incident and actively searching for a suspect. The SMPD has not yet released further details about the circumstances of the shooting or a possible motive. The condition of the injured employee has not been disclosed at this time.
In response to the shooting, Santa Monica College announced that all of its campuses will be closed on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, as a precautionary measure. Updates on the investigation and campus operations will be provided through the college’s official channels, including their X account (@SMC_edu) and online newsroom.
