As UIF Participants, the Students Undergo a Six-Week Training Program to Assess Campus Needs and Design Projects
Four Santa Monica College students from the Bachelor of Science in Interaction Design program have been selected as University Innovation Fellows by Stanford University’s d.school. SMC students Carey Corrow, Alison Parrales, Anna Giglotti, and Tony Renoj join 164 fellows worldwide in a program designed to empower student leaders to drive innovation on their campuses.
As UIF participants, the students undergo a six-week training program to assess campus needs and design projects that foster collaboration, entrepreneurship, and practical skills. SMC’s Faculty Champion, Professor Luke Johnson, praised the experience, noting it encourages students to examine SMC’s structure and lead positive change.
The students’ initiatives include a streamlined reservation system, a tech fair, a virtual hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, and a hands-on innovation event. “These changemakers aren’t just dreaming about tomorrow — they’re building it,” said UIF co-director Leticia Britos Cavagnaro.
