Abandoned Car Found Stuck on Santa Monica Beach

Upon Arrival, Officers Assessed the Stranded Car and Requested a Tow Truck

On New Year’s Day, local authorities were called to the beach in Santa Monica where a vehicle had been abandoned in the sand, having driven onto the beach and become stuck overnight, as documented in a recent YouTube video by Santa Monica Closeup.

Upon arrival, officers assessed the stranded car and requested a tow truck to handle the extraction. The tow operator managed to pull the vehicle from the sand using a long cable, after which it was secured and removed from the area, as SMC recorded.

The vehicle appeared to be a Honda Accord that is about two decades old.

According to an SMPD spokesperson, incidents like this are relatively rare, occurring approximately every other month. They typically involve drivers unfamiliar with the local geography who mistakenly navigate into the beach area from the parking lots after dark.

The spokesperson added that unless there’s evidence of impairment, drivers in these situations are not usually arrested for the mishap.
