Malibu City Council Advances Recovery Plans. Rebuild Center Set to Open, Special Meeting Updated

New In-Person Support Hub and a Revised Special Meeting Format Announced

The Malibu City Council continues to push forward with fire recovery and rebuilding efforts, emphasizing community engagement and streamlined support for affected residents.

During a Special Meeting on February 27, the City Council discussed ongoing recovery initiatives and announced changes to the format of the March 4 Special City Council meeting to better address proposed ordinance changes related to rebuilding efforts.

The March 4 Special City Council meeting will now begin with a workshop focused on discussing ordinance changes first introduced at the February 20 Planning Commission meeting. The workshop will last no more than six hours, followed by a Public Hearing on the proposed ordinance updates.

If the workshop extends beyond its scheduled time, the City Council may opt to continue the Public Hearing on March 5. Meeting agendas, staff reports, and participation details will be available in advance at MalibuCity.org/AgendaCenter.

As part of Malibu’s fire recovery strategy, the Malibu Rebuild Center, located at 23805 Stuart Ranch Rd, will officially open its doors on Monday, March 10. The center will serve as an in-person hub for residents and businesses, providing a streamlined resource center for rebuilding support.

The Malibu Rebuild Center will operate Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“As we rebuild from these fires, our focus remains on creating a clear and supportive framework that enables our community to recover quickly and safely,” said Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart. “The Malibu Rebuild Center is an incredible milestone, centralizing key information and resources under one roof while extending the digital support efforts already in place.”
