Santa Monica Baseball Dominates Centennial, Bounces Back from Recent Loss

Santa Monica will look to continue its momentum Thursday in a rematch

The Santa Monica High School baseball team rebounded in emphatic fashion Tuesday, routing Centennial 18-0 in a dominant league victory on the road.

The Vikings (6-4) wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second. By the end of the fourth, Santa Monica had plated eight more, sealing the mercy-rule victory after just three innings. The Vikings’ offense racked up 18 runs on just four hits, capitalizing on walks and aggressive baserunning, including 12 stolen bases.

Junior Kaveh Naini led the charge with four RBIs, while senior Jackson Myrow went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Tre Camp also contributed, driving in three runs.

On the mound, Santa Monica’s pitching was nearly flawless. Naini and senior Eddie Jennings combined for a no-hitter, striking out eight while allowing just three walks over three innings.

The win was a crucial bounce-back performance for the Vikings after suffering two consecutive losses to Capistrano Valley Christian over the weekend. Despite a strong outing from senior Gavin Kirtley, who allowed just one earned run over five innings, Santa Monica fell 4-3 last Friday before dropping a 3-0 contest the following day.

With Tuesday’s victory, Santa Monica improved to 1-0 in league play and sits at No. 83 in the California state rankings. The Vikings are also ranked No. 42 in the Southern Section and No. 4 in Division V.

Santa Monica will look to continue its momentum Thursday in a rematch against Centennial at home before facing Simi Valley on Friday.
