Santa Monica College Police Department Investigates Reported Sexual Battery at Campus Library

Victim Is an Enrolled Student; College Urges Vigilance and Awareness

Santa Monica College officials are investigating a reported incident of sexual battery that occurred inside the SMC Library on the main campus on Wednesday, April 30, at approximately 11:30 a.m.

According to a campus safety advisory, the victim reported that an unknown individual approached them inside the library, tapped them on the shoulder, and asked for a kiss. When the victim attempted to leave, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s groin area without consent. The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction.

The Santa Monica College Police Department (SMCPD) responded to the report and offered support services to the victim, who is confirmed to be an enrolled SMC student. No physical injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 18 to 25 years old, with black hair. No additional identifying details or known SMC affiliation were provided. It is not known whether the suspect used a vehicle to leave the area.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SMCPD at 310-434-4300, referencing Report #25-82.
