Two days only: How to score the Basqueria x Like a Friend Said Earth Day sandwich

Chef Sebastien Pourrat debuts a limited-edition sandwich to benefit charity.

Malibu’s Basque mini-mart Basqueria and local recommendation newsletter “Like A Friend Said” are teaming up on a limited-edition sandwich collaboration in Surf Canyon to mark Earth Day and their one-year partnership.

Chef Sebastien Pourrat’s creation, “The Casita Friend,” will be available exclusively on two upcoming Saturdays, April 25 and May 2, beginning at 11 a.m. until supplies run out.

Basqueria’s popularity spiked after their business was mentioned in the “Like A Friend Said” newsletter, and Chef Pourrat’s sandwiches started selling out each weekend, usually within an hour. One year later, nothing has changed.

In addition to the pop-up, the collaborators are donating 100 sandwiches to FoodCycle LA. The event is part of the partnership between the newsletter and the hunger-relief organization to ensure surplus food reaches Los Angeles residents in need.

Sabrina Canario, founder of “Like A Friend Said,” has centered the platform’s mission on supporting first-generation immigrant businesses and local disaster relief. This latest initiative follows the group’s successful fundraising efforts for small businesses impacted by last year’s regional wildfires.
