SMPD Open New Downtown Substation at Santa Monica Place

The substation, located at 395 Santa Monica Place, Suite 122, will serve as a public safety command center and community engagement hub.

The Santa Monica Police Department officially opened a new Downtown Substation at Santa Monica Place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.

The substation, located at 395 Santa Monica Place, Suite 122, will serve as a public safety command center and community engagement hub in the heart of the city’s busy retail and dining district.

Police Chief Darrick Jacob and city officials attended the event, which marks the latest step in the city’s Realignment Plan aimed at strengthening public safety and revitalizing downtown Santa Monica.

The 863-square-foot facility is intended to support faster response times, expanded foot and bike patrols on the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Pier and surrounding areas, and closer coordination with local businesses and stakeholders.

As part of the plan, the department has increased staffing in the Downtown Services Unit, added patrol officers, integrated Homeless Liaison Program officers, and introduced new Public Safety Officers to supplement operations.

“This is about restoring confidence, safety, and vibrancy to our downtown,” City Manager Oliver Chi said.
