UCLA Takes Football Recruit Away From USC:

UCLA’s Rick Neuheisel scored his biggest recruiting victory since becoming the Bruins’ coach with the signing of Carson High tight end Morrell Presley on December 18.

Eighteen months ago Presley made a verbal commitment to USC. However, verbal commitments aren’t binding and players who issue them are frequently recruited by other schools. Most stay with their initial commitment, but occasionally someone doesn’t.

Presley, who is ranked among the top prep players in the nation at his position, is an example of the Bruins’ need to upgrade their talent after losing eight games this season.

“We’re obviously delighted that he’s coming here,” said Neuheisel. “Morrell is the new breed of tight end, a good blocker who’s fast and athletic enough to catch passes.”

Presley said, “I loved it at USC but decided I want to be a pioneer who helps restore UCLA football and the Bruin-Trojan rivalry.”

Presley intends to enter school at the start of February, which will allow him to participate in spring football.
