24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

The 24th annual celebration of Dr. King’s birthday takes on an additional poignancy this year as Obama becomes President, fulfilling one of King’s dreams. The program at SGI Auditorium will include inspirational readings, music, a performance by Angel City Chorale, and presentations of scholarships. Following the celebration, there will be a Community Involvement Fair, from 11am-noon at 606 Wilshire Blvd. next door.

In honor of Obama’s pledge to promote the use of plug-in (electric) vehicles, Plug In America is presenting the first plug-in vehicle inauguration parade. Among the participants will be more than two dozen Toyota RAV4 EVs, three Tesla Roadsters, two Vectrix motor scooters, one Zero Motorcycle, two Phoenix SUTs and a prototype Mitsubishi iMiEV. Prior to the parade down Main Street, State Senator Fran Pavley, author of the nation’s first global warming law, will be one of several guest speakers.
