Two Local Players Pick San Jose State:

Tackle Amar Pal, of Santa Monica High, and center Reuben Hasani, of Venice have signed football letters of intent with San Jose State.

Spartan coach Dick Tomey came to the Westside a few days before the February 6 national signing day to secure the commitments.

Pal, who is 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, made all-Ocean League twice and all-CIF in 2008 and impressed Tomey with his versatility. Pal was the Vikings’ long snapper on punts and also played defense, making 21 tackles and intercepting one pass for Coach Zach Cuda’s team that went 8-3.

“He rarely came off the field,” said Tomey. “We like him as a tackle but he has position versatility.”

Hasani is 6-foot-3, 280. He was all-Western League and all-City for Coach Angelo Gasca’s league champions.
