A Possible 1% Rate Increase for SM Renters
This month Santa Monica Rent Control is expected to raise Santa Monica’s rent by only 1%, which is the lowest proposed increase in the 30 years for the Rent Control Board’s operation. On June 11, the board will vote weather or not to allow an eight dollar increase on those properties getting $750 a month and an additional $16 for any properties getting $1650 a month.

A Note from Jerry Peaceactivist Ruben Regarding His Position in Treesavers
This is to inform you that I have dropped out of Treesavers and, of course, will no longer be a spokesperson.
I remain committed to our trees. I want to focus more on promoting a climate of respectful dialogue and debate as well as building more mutual cooperation with our S.M. City staff and elected officials, including our City forester Walt Warriner and his dedicated staff.
I support the now-forming S.M. Urban Forest Master Plan Task Force and urge everyone to participate in that open process. I also support the timely establishment of an ongoing S.M. Tree Commission.

Santa Monica Strives for Excellence in Customer Service
Bayside District Corporation will be partnering up with Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) to train Downtown Santa Monica’s Ambassadors, a street concierge program created to provide a more inviting atmosphere in the Downtown Santa Monica and Third Street Promenade area. Kathleen Rawson, executive director of the Bayside District Corporation, stated, “The Ambassador Program is a step in the right direction towards creating a more inviting downtown. This has been an amazing feat and we hope the community will embrace these dedicated individuals and appreciate their presence as much as we do.”
Bayside District will use SMCVB’s “I Am Santa Monica” program to familiarize the Ambassadors with the area. In addition to working with the CVB, the Ambassador’s extensive training program included sessions with various departments at the City, Police, and Big Blue Bus.
