Angels Sign 27 Players, But Not Skaggs:

The Angels have signed 27 players from the recent baseball draft, but Santa Monica High pitcher Tyler Skaggs is not among them.

Skaggs expressed delight when the Angels chose hin with the 40th selection in the draft. However, he isn’t among a group of Angel signees that include first round choices Randal Grichuk and Michael Trout, both outfielders who are playing for an Angels farm team in Tempe, Arizona.

The list of signees also includes left-handed pitcher Tyler Kehner, who was drafted eight notches below Skaggs.

Skaggs has the option of not signing and attending Cal State Fullerton, his choice if he chooses to play college baseball.

Recent scouting reports of Skaggs posted on the Internet project him as an eventual starting pitcher in the major leagues. His fastball and curve are rated as outstanding but his changeup is regarded as needing considerable work.

Skaggs will become 18 this month.
