The game to decide the Western League football championship was as good Friday night as it figured to be.
Westchester High came to Venice. Both teams had a 3-0 league record and early in the second half the Comets had the lead.
But then Venice made some key plays that resulted in a 29-12 victory.
Westchester led, 12-7 in the third quarter when Venice struck for two touchdowns. Linebacker Tim Geiger picked up a fumble to score and quarterback Alfonso Medina teamed with receiver Larry Clark on two passes for another touchdown.
Venice is 8-1 overall and Westchester is 6-3. Following one more week in the regular season both will compete in the LA City Section playoffs.
