Two Fatal Car Incidents on PCH:

A Santa Monica resident was killed on April 2 in a fatal car crash on Pacific Coast Highway near Broad Beach Road in Malibu. In an unrelated incident the next day, man crashed his car and killed a 13-year-old girl also on PCH, at Heathercliff Drive near Point Dume, approximately four miles from the scene of the first incident.

In the first incident, 48-year-old James Stellar was broadsided by 19-year-old David Corona of Oxnard at approximately 4:15 p.m. while Stellar was making a turn. L.A. County police questioned whether Corona was awake when the crash occurred. An invesitigation is underway and charges habe not been filed.

In the second incident, 26-year-old man Sina Khankhanian killed Emily Rose Shane, a teenage Malibu student, when he crashed his 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer shortly after 5 p.m. on April 3.

Preliminary police reports suspected Khankhanian of Winnetka deliberately crashing his vehicle, although it appeared he did not intend to hit the girl, who was walking along the road. After hitting the girl, Khankhanian struck a power pole and overturned his vehicle.

Khankhanian was charged Tuesday with murder, pleading not guilty to the allegation of the automobile as personal use of a deadly and dangerous weapon. He is schedule to appear in the Airport Branch Courthouse in L.A. on May 6 to set a preliminary hearing as to whether the evidence is sufficient to proceed to trial.

Chew said he had no information about whether charges would be filed. He advised contacting the Sheriff’s Department on Monday.
