Alert: Police Blotter:

He Had Additives

On Thursday, September 23, at 7:27 p.m., officers were called to the Whole Foods store, located at Fifth Street and Wilshire Boulevard, in response to a robbery suspect that was in the custody of the store security.

Upon arrival, the officers learned that a 55-year-old man was spotted entering the store by a security guard, acting as if he was just another perusing shopper, enjoying the free faire offered at that establishment. However, this man abruptly left the store with what appeared to be something concealed under his arm. The guard confronted the man outside the store, and noticed that he had a number of unpaid for items he was attempting to conceal. After pushing the guard out of the way, the suspect made a run for it. Another security guard, presumably more adept in the practice of running and chasing people who had not paid for items, pursued the alleged thief as far as the post office, where he suddenly fell down. The security guard apprehend him, the police were called and quickly arrived, and the Santa Monica resident was arrested and charged with robbery. His bail set at $50,000.

There Was Method To His Madness

On Saturday, September 24, at 1:36 p.m., officers went to the 1600 block of Fifth Street because they had a reported possible vehicle burglary was in progress. They arrived at the scene and were informed by a resident that a person was seen damaging various vehicles. The police caught hold of the suspect a short distance away and noted that he had damaged eight vehicles, strangely causing the same undesired modification to them all, namely breaking a side mirror, windshield wiper, and removal of the license plate. The total damage to all the vehicles was estimated at being between $2,000 and $3,000. The 44-year-old male suspect refused to tell the police where he lived, however the police arrested him anyway for felony vandalism with bail of $20,000.

Drugs Save Man From Drugs

On Saturday, September 25, at 11:13 a.m., an intoxicated individual was reported at Sixth Street and Kensington Avenue. Upon arrival, Santa Monica Police officers noticed that members of the Santa Monica Fire Department, who had also been advised about the intoxicated person, had beaten them to the scene.

The fire fighters told the police officers that they had given this 32-year-old man some “Narcan,” which is a substance used to counteract the effects of a drugs overdose, because they thought the suspect had overdosed on a central nervous system depressant. The subject was taken to a local hospital and the police followed. When they arrived, the police were informed by hospital staff that the guy had been uncooperative and had left the premises. A short while later some UCLA police officers found this man and, following an altercation, arrested and charged him with assault and battery, possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia, being under the influence, and a probation violation. This Pacific Palisades man’s bail is $20,000.
