Alert: Police Blotter:

Car Chase

On Friday, October 9, at 7:10 p.m., officers were called to go to the area of 4th Street and Broadway regarding an auto burglary in progress. While they were en-route to the scene of the crime they were advised that the suspect was fleeing and was being chased. When the officers approached the area they heard people yelling for help and saw a victim holding a suspect in a bear hug. The officers took over at that point and placed this suspect into their custody. The officers asked the victims what had gone down and the victim told them that they had returned to their car and had seen this suspect in the vehicle, and had attired himself with one of their grandchildren’s hoodies. The victims had then confronted the suspected burglar and had demanded the return of the hoodie. The suspect had returned it but had then attempted to hit the victim, which the victim avoided, but the suspect had made a run for it and the victims had given chase. The victim, and some other people, had eventually apprehended the suspect, and at that point the police had arrived. The officers arrested this 27-year-old man from Culver City, and he was booked for robbery and burglary. Bail was $50,000.

Follow The Skid Marks

On Friday, October 8, at 2:35 p.m., officers on patrol were flagged down by numerous members of the public who all told them the same thing; that a man had been driving a vehicle that had been involved in a hit and run incident at 6th Street and Broadway, and had sped off, leaving skid marks.

The officers followed the skid marks to the area of 18th and Washington Streets when they received a radio call informing them that there had been another collision at 24th Street and Montana Avenue, so they hurried there. When they arrived at that location they saw a vehicle with considerable front-end damage, and then they found the driver, and they knew that they had got their man. They spoke with the man, a 28-year-old, of Alhambra, and deduced very quickly that he was showing signs of intoxication, and that all the pieces were beginning to fit together in order for them to make a case against this miscreant. The next step was to ask this man to conduct a series of balance and coordination tests, and not surprisingly to the officers, he failed. The officers then investigated further and concluded that yes, indeed this was the guy involved in the two collisions. He was arrested and booked for driving while impaired, driving on a suspended license, and hit and run. His bail is $30,000.
