Annual State of the City Address in Santa Monica This Morning:

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of the City breakfast reception and program will be held Jan. 27 at the Eli and Edith Broad Stage in Santa Monica. The program addresses concerns regarding the impact of the current global and state economic situation at the local level.

“The State of the City is a central vehicle in ensuring the continual advancement of doing business in Santa Monica,” said Laurel Rosen, president of Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce. “Because of the fundamental link between a thriving city and its economy, our in-depth discussions unveil timely insights for businesses and residents alike.”

The program will begin with a welcome address by Mayor Richard Bloom, followed by City Manager Rod Gould’s State of the City address. Gould is expected to speak about City services and capital improvements that will affect businesses, as well as the things businesses need to be aware of. The State of the City will be the central part of the program.

There will also be a panel with five businesses, moderated by Brad Cox, chair of the Santa Monica Alliance. Magdalena Davis, marketing and events coordinator for the Chamber, describes the panel as a “mix of small and large businesses.” The panel will include representatives from Activision, Agensys, The Lobster Restaurant, Santa Monica Place, and Revolution Fitness.

Finally, the Chamber will present its Award for Economic Excellence to Santa Monica Place, for contributing to the improvement of business in the downtown Santa Monica area in 2010.

Tickets for State of the City are $40 for Chamber members, $50 for non-member general admission, and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at the Chamber web site or by phone at 310.393.9825. Tickets may be purchased at the door for the same prices listed above.

The Eli and Edith Broad Stage is located at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street.
