It was Earth Day on Friday, and 88 members of Santa Monica College’s EcoAction Club and Sustainable Works went to the beach… to clean.
The Club is taking part in Adopt-A-Beach, where they will pick up trash three times over the course of the year.
Tom Fleming of Heal the Bay joined them and said picking up trash and documenting it can actually make a difference. It was instrumental in the City Council banning smoking from Santa Monica’s beaches years ago after Heal the Bay showed them information on the amount of cigarette butts littered.
