Man Tazed After Attempting to Assault Clerks, Cops: APB: He Sang For His Supper?

At 2:53 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, officers went to the Arby’s at 1340 Lincoln Boulevard in response to an assault. Upon arrival, they learned that a man entered the restaurant and began to yell at all of the employees. One of the employees attempted to reason with the man, and he responded by focusing his anger upon her, attempting to strike her in the face with a closed fist. After failing to connect his punch, he left the restaurant and headed north on Lincoln Boulevard.

The employee stated that she did not wish to prosecute. As the officers were investigating the report they received a radio call and realized that the man could well be the same individual who had just been reported as a person performing a similar act at Truetone Music, located at 714 Santa Monica Boulevard. The officers proceeded to the area in order to try to find the character, and noted a man walking in the 1500 block of 10th Street who fit the description. They attempted to detain the man, but he was uncooperative and began yelling at the officers. The officers asked him many times to sit down, and at one point the man approached one of the officers in a manner that suggested he was going to attack the officer, at which point the officer tazed him. The man was then arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer. His bail was set at $10,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
