Internationally recognized author of educational books, Dr. JoAnn Deak, Ph.D. will share information on identity information and brain research at Westside Neighborhood School on Oct. 18.
Dr. Deak has more than 30 years experience as an educator and psychologist and has helped children develop into confident and competent adults.
An acclaimed international speaker, she has presented from China to Australia, and across the United States, delivering invaluable information based on the latest discoveries in brain research for teachers and parents on education and child rearing.
Her entertaining style of delivery belies the power and importance of her message: “Every interaction a person has during the course of a day influences, positively or negatively, the formation of that person.” As teachers and parents, what we say and what we do with our children matters, and Dr. Deak’s information-packed presentation provides invaluable guideposts for our effective work with children.
Dr. Deak has written several books including, “How Girls Thrive”, “The Fantastic Elastic Brain”, and “Girls will be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters”.
Dr. Deak has been a teacher, administrator, school psychologist and researcher and had a private practice in Ohio. She participated in a six-year study with Harvard in the 1980s and has been an educational consultant since 1999.
She has the ability to demystify complex issues of child development, learning, identity formation and brain research that have proven invaluable to parents as well as educators.
Dr. Deak will speak at the school from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m and will be available for book signing at 6:30 p.m.
