SMC Music Department To Present Eclectic Mix Of October Concerts:

The Santa Monica College Music Department will present an eclectic mix of concerts in October, all of which will be held at The Broad Stage or Edye Second Space at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, located on Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th Street.

The lineup is:

• Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.

SMC Orchestra, under the baton of Jim Martin and assistant conductor Fang-Ning Lim, and featuring pianist Nora Chiang-Wrobel performing one of Mozart’s favorite works, Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, K. 491. Also on the program will be Robert Schumann’s arch-Romantic Symphony No. 3, known as the “Rhenish,” after Germany’s most famous river, and more. The Broad Stage. Tickets are $10.

• Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 & 9 p.m.

Jazz – Jon Mayer Quartet, the playful and superbly inventive bebop-based pianist and his combo. The Edye Second Space. Tickets are $10.

• Sunday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m.

SMC Wind Ensemble, with conductor Kevin McKeown. Performance highlights include Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades, in celebration of the renowned work’s 15th anniversary. The Broad Stage. Tickets are $10.

• Sunday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m.

SMC Jazz Band, under the direction of Keith Fiddmont. The program features jazz artist Bill Cunliffe, honored with several Grammy and Emmy awards. The Broad Stage. Tickets are $10.
