6th Annual Pico Festival And Classic Car Show Today From 11 a.m To 4 p.m.:

The 6th Annual Pico Festival and Classic Car Show will be held today Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Virginia Avenue Park.

The festival spotlights the many creative businesses and artists of Pico Blvd in Santa Monica.

Artists will display and demonstrate an array of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and other colorful creations, all for sale.

Neighborhood merchants will offer a fine arrangement of fashion, balloons, salon treatments, massage, and other useful services.

A Gallery Pavilion filled with a select collection of fine art from around the city will be on

exhibit.

The Classic Car Show will consist of more than 40 custom cars from across Southern California.

Pico Boulevard has been host to scores of auto businesses over the decades.

Trophies will be awarded in various classes and prizes will be raffled, including a sound system donated by Al’s Stereo.

Car Show and raffle proceeds will benefit the SaMoHi Athletic Department and the Cody Williams Recovery Fund (the Santa Monica High School linebacker who sustained serious spinal injuries in a game in September 2009).

Musical performances include Upground, Mariachi Alta California, the Russ Mullen Jazz Associates, and the Samohi Jazz Combo.

Various dance performances will be presented by Folklorico La Rosa, Capoeira Besouro, YWCA Dancers, and the Samohi Cheerleaders.

At Santa Monica College the Art Department will open its doors for Glassblowing and printmaking demonstrations, and will host an exhibition and sale of Drawings, Paintings, Jewelry, and Art Glass made by student artist and faculty.

SMC will also provide panels for anyone to draw on as a part of The Big Draw LA annual October event.

The Big Draw LA creates opportunities for people of all ages to discover that drawing can help “SEE, THINK, and INVENT”.

Santa Monica College will offer free parking at Pico and 17th St.

The festival is organized by the Pico Improvement Organization and the City of Santa Monica.
