On Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6:43 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 2600 block of the beach bike path in response to a report of an assault that had just occurred.

The officers spoke with the victim who explained that he had been walking northbound along the bike path when another man suddenly punched him in the throat.

The man had appeared to be very drunk, he said.

The officers found this man on the 2900 block of the beach bike path, and after the victim had positively identified him, arrested him for the throat punch.

This 20-year-old Venice, California resident was charged with assault, battery, public intoxication, and a probation violation.

His bail was set at $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
