Civil Liberties Abuses on Democratic Club Agenda:

At a meeting next Wednesday, the Santa Monica Democratic Club will “consider action regarding the threat to our civil liberties, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution through abuse of the Federal ‘Patriot Act,’” according to a spokesperson.

Constitutional lawyer, lecturer and writer, Stephen Rohde will speak on the subject.

Past president of the Southern California American Civil Liberties Union, and the Beverly Hills Bar Association, Rohde is a frequent speaker at bar associations, universities, and religious organizations on threats to civil liberties and their restoration.

He is the author of American Words of Freedom, which explores the origins, history and meaning of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at St. Anne’s community room, at 20th and Colorado.The public is welcome. Parking is free. There is no admission charge and refreshments will be served.
