Four Motorists Arrested For DUIs At Santa Monica Checkpoint:

Santa Monica police held a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint on Friday

A Santa Monica Police Department DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint held last Friday, Feb. 10, in the 300 block of Pico (westbound) netted a handful of arrests, including four for DUI offences.

SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said the checkpoint hours were from 8:20 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Key statistics from the checkpoint:

Vehicles through the checkpoint: 1443

Vehicles screened: 266

DUI arrests: 4

Felony drug possession arrest: 1

Citations: 17 (Four for unlicensed driver and 13 for various vehicle code violations).

Vehicles impounded for DUI driver in-custody: 4

Vehicles towed for drivers driving while unlicensed: 2

Meanwhile, the January results for distracted driving (Cell Phones) have been compiled.

Lewis said the department as a whole wrote 397 citations during the month of January. The breakdown is as follows:

23123(A), Talking on cell phone: 375 (Motor officers wrote 324 of these)

23123.5, Texting: 22 (Motor officers wrote 17 of these)
