Santa Monica High School choral director Jeffe Huls was honored as one of 10 teachers from the five supervisorial districts across Los Angeles as part of Music Center’s prestigious 30th Annual BRAVO Awards for 2012 at the Disney Concert Hall last week.
The ceremony, which was hosted by Garry Marshall, honored the outstanding teachers who were chosen as finalists in the categories of arts specialist, generalist teacher, and arts rich schools.
These teachers went through an intensive program after being nominated that included submitting videos of their teaching, examples of their lesson plans, and visits to their classroom by members of the BRAVO selection committee.
At the end of the ceremony, the winners in each of the categories were announced. Huls was presented with a beautiful BRAVO Award crystal trophy and a cash award dedicated to supplementing arts programs.
Huls gave a short acceptance speech in which he thanked his administrators, colleagues, and SMMUSD for their support of arts education.
“We are so proud of Mr. Huls,” commented SMMUSD’s Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator Tom Whaley, “and are extremely thankful that our district attracts teachers like him to work with our students in the arts every day!”
Huls will be hosting a Masterworks concert on Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in Barnum Hall located on the Santa Monica High School campus 601 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
