Additional Charges For Man Caught Taking Drugs Into Santa Monica Jail: APB: He Did Not Heed The Warning.

On Saturday, March 3, at 8:57 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine patrol in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Ashland Avenue when they saw a cyclist who was violating not one, but two Santa Monica Municipal Codes, so they stopped the cyclist in order to investigate further.

The man immediately told the officers that he was coincidentally on parole for burglary, so the officers then decided to search this man.

During the search the officers discovered that the man was in possession of some marijuana and a pipe with which to smoke the intoxicant.

The officers arrested this man and took him off to jail, whereupon, prior to actually entering the jail, the officers warned the man that if he had any more drugs upon his person he had better tell them then, because if he brought drugs into the police station it would constitute a felony.

This man told police that he most certainly did not have any more drugs on his person so they all strolled into the police station.

As he was being searched again, prior to booking, the officers found some more marijuana, and so this 27-year-old Santa Monica resident was charged with bringing a controlled substance into the jail, as well as riding a bicycle in the dark without a headlight, riding a bicycle with headphones on both ears, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, violation of probation, and a local warrant.

Bail was not granted at the time.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
