Samohi Film Students Create Weekly Online News And Opinion Program:

Santa Monica High School film students are learning how to use a teleprompter and put together a news and opinion program that they will release online each week.

Santa Monica High School students have created a online news and opinion program called “The World This Week” — the first episode was released this week on its website and YouTube channel.

Student Matthew Ware said the project was a collaboration between Santa Monica High School film students and other interested youth.

“We aim to report on the past week’s news with our own perspective, interviewing students, staff, and community members on local and national issues,” Ware said.

The first broadcast covered the Sept. 11 anniversary, the embassy attack in Lybia and protests throughout the middle east over the video “The Innocence of Muslims,” the appeal of Perry v. Brown (Proposition 8 case) to the Supreme Court, and the two tax increases to fund education (Props. 30 and 38) on the November ballot in California.
