Good Food Festival & Conference This Weekend, Culminates At Annenberg:

The second annual Good Food Festival & Conference will be held next weekend, Nov. 2-4 with the culminating event in Santa Monica.

It is the only festival that celebrates the farmers and focuses on regional and national issues that are integral to building local and sustainable food systems and educating people about the Good Food Movement.

Programming for GGFC will focus on issues that matter to Californians most, such as community building, safe, healthy and economically viable food jobs and the California GMO labeling measure, Proposition 37.

“The Good Food Movement is working to ensure that this food is healthy, sustainable and supportive of family farmers and local economies,” said Jim Slama, president of FamilyFarmed.org. “The Good Food Festival and Conference brings people together to grow this movement, learn, connect and most importantly have fun.”

The Good Food Festival & Conference begins on Friday, Nov. 2 with an “Urban Barn Raising” with pioneering urban farmer Will Allen at John Muir High School at 1905 Lincoln Avenue in Pasadena.

Tickets for Friday are free, but RSVP is required online in advance (see end of story).

On Saturday, Nov. 3, The Good Food Conference will be a day of informative panel discussions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard (at Fairfax) in Los Angeles. Featured speakers include Will Allen (The Good Food Revolution), Laura Avery (Santa Monica Farmers Markets), Andrew Kimbrell (Center for Food Safety), and Evan Kleiman (Good Food/KCRW).

Tickets for Saturday are $45 (includes museum admission) and $35 for museum members, seniors 65 plus, and students with ID.

The conference will culminate with the Localicious food and wine tasting fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.

Guests will savor the freshest and best of the season with signature dishes prepared by 30 of LA’s leading chefs paired with 30 farmers from the Santa Monica Farmers Markets.

Listen to live music under the stars, enjoy local wines, and craft beers and bid on the silent auction at this zero-waste event.

Tickets for Sunday are $125 per person. (Readers of The Mirror can receive special 20 percent discount when they purchase Localicious tickets this week with the LOCAL20 code on Eventbrite).

Proceeds benefit FamilyFarmed.org, which encourages the production of delicious, healthy and accessible food made as close to home as possible by family farmers.

FamilyFarmed.org is nationally recognized for “growing the market” for local and sustainable food and works with many of the country’s largest buyers of local and sustainably grown food.

The Good Food Festival and Conference was created to link some of the best local farmers and family-owned producers of food and farm products with the public, trade buyers and leaders in the field to foster relationships that facilitate the growth of local food systems.

Tickets for the conference and Localicious are available at www.goodfoodfestivals.com/la.
