The Santa Monica Police Department has identified the suspects involved in Wednesday’s robbery of the First Federal Bank on Main Street in Santa Monica as Pedro Rivera, 27, of Temple City and Dexter Glasgow, 35, of Los Angeles.
The two men are being investigated for a series of armed bank robberies in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Los Angeles.
After robbing the bank, the suspects led Santa Monica Police Officers on a vehicle pursuit that ended in the parking structure of the Villa Marina Marketplace in Marina Del Rey.
The suspects abandoned their vehicle, ignored the officers’ commands to halt and surrender, and fled from the parking structure into an alcove leading to the Villa Marina Marketplace with the police in hot pursuit.
When one of the suspects reached toward his waistband, the officers, fearing he was going for a gun, opened fire. Both suspects were shot in the torso. One collapsed, but the other continued to flee. The first suspect was taken into custody immediately and the second suspect was apprehended approximately 40 yards away. Both suspects were transported to local hospitals where they are listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening wounds.
A black semi-automatic weapon and some money were found inside a plastic bag next to the fallen suspect. He was carrying the bag when he left the suspect vehicle, and money from the robbery was strewn along the chase route.
The investigation is on going and charges against the suspects are pending.
It began at 10:28 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, when Santa Monica Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the First Federal Bank on Main Street. Witnesses reported that one of the suspects was armed with a black handgun and had fled the bank and entered a black SUV.
Officers responding to the bank robbery observed the suspect vehicle at Lincoln and Venice Boulevards in the city of Venice. A short pursuit ensued.
