Rodell Rosel performs a concert at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica. The Grammy-nominated Filipino tenor’s program includes P.D.Q. Mi’s Westside Comedy Theater presents “Mission IMPROVable” today and Saturday, April 13 at 10 pm. A high-energy explosive improv show with lots of audience interaction. Colonials: An American Shakespeare Company presents “The Taming of the Shrew” at 2 pm. This young company premiered last year at the Miles with a sparkling production of Twelfth Night, which shared a focus on the actors, utilizing stripped-down sets and an intimate setting. $20, $10 for students and seniors. The Broad Stage presents “Darren Criss and the Yale Whiffenpoofs Concert for P.S. Arts” at 5 pm. The Yale Whiffenpoofs, the nation’s premier vocal group and stage and screen star Darren Criss – best known for his role on the Fox TV hit “Glee” – will headline a concert to benefit P.S. Arts, which helps bring arts education to underserved public schools. The Yale Whiffenpoofs and Criss will perform a cappella and choral renditions of American jazz classics, contemporary pop hits, and more. Santa Monica Public Library presents a special afternoon program at 2 pm with best-selling children’s book author Pseudonymous Bosch and musical sketch comedy troupe, the Story Pirates.
