Bail was set at $20,000 for a 25-year-old man who was arrested on Friday, May 10 for causing a disturbance and damage at a liquor store.
At 7:15 pm officers of the SMPD went to a liquor store at 2616 Main Street in order to investigate a disturbance report. When they arrived they saw the owner of the store on the ground wrestling with a man whom they deemed to be the suspect.
The officers recognized this man as someone who had been the subject of several other radio calls in recent weeks.
The officers detained this suspect in handcuffs and spoke with the owner of the liquor store who told them that he had returned from his lunch break and discovered the suspect in the store.
He recognized the suspect as someone who had previously stolen cash from the store.
The suspect was in the process of cursing out an employee of the store, so the owner escorted this suspect outside. The suspect immediately returned to the store and attacked several bags of potato chips and glass jars, spilling the contents onto the floor.
It was at that point that the owner wrestled the suspect to the ground and held him there until the officers arrived at the scene.
The officers arrested this man (who refused to disclose any address that he might have) and he was charged with assault, battery, vandalism, resisting officers, and a probation violation.
