Friday, June 14

Highway Performance Space presents “What? No Ping Pong Balls?” by performance artist Dan Kwong. Friday and Saturday at 8:30 pm and Sunday at 7:30 pm. Kwong collaborates with renowned taiko drummer Kenny Endo to celebrate the life of Kwong’s late mother, Momo Nagano, an eccentric Japanese-American artist who prevailed over sexism and racism as a single parent during the period of social upheaval in America beginning in the early 1960s. Additionally, an exhibition of several of Nagano’s major weavings will be featured in the Highways lobby gallery through June 30. 1651 18th Street. PREM will be performing live at Bhakti Yoga Shala from 8:30 pm to 10 pm. Prem, meaning “love” in Sanskrit, is an alternative rock band from San Diego that mixes western rock and uplifting lyrics with sacred Sanskrit mantras from ancient India. The group is led by lead singer/songwriter, Thierry Maurel (Prem), who began combining Rock and Sanskrit during his time as head chef for the Self Realization Fellowship Ashram in Hidden Valley, California. Santa Monica Playhouse presents “Momma was a bad Mutha… Shut yo Mouth” today through Sunday. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm. Mt. Olive Classical Music Series will host Fang-Ning Lim and Chamber Ensemble in a Concerto Concert featuring Aaron Sim, in Grand Concerto for Guitar Op.30 in A Major by Giuliani; Helen Erskine, in “A Night Piece” for Flute & String Quartet by Foote; also Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 Violins, Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2, and Piazzolla’s Libertango. Patagonia is hosting a special screening for “Uncharted Waters,” a documentary about Australia’s golden child of surfing and Patagonia ambassador, Wayne Lynch.
