Saint John’s Health Center To Host Free Orthopedics Forums This Week:

An expert team of Saint John’s Health Center’s distinguished physicians, surgeons, and clinicians will participate in two free community education forums next week about arthritis, joint, and bone health that will include question and answer sessions.

According to data from a national survey published in The Burden of Musculoskeletal Disease in the United States in 2011 by the U.S. Bone & Joint Initiative, more than 110 million adults in the United States, representing one in two people aged 18 and older, are affected by some form of musculoskeletal condition.

This shows that that everyone is affected in some way, personally or through family or friends.

“Your Health and Orthopedics—Arthritis, Joint and Bone Health,” will be presented on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 2-4 pm and on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Santa Monica Public Library Auditorium.

Speakers and lectures include:

— rheumatologists, Thomas Susko, MD (Sept. 17) and Orrin Troum, MD (Sept. 18), “Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis;”

— orthopedic surgeon Andrew Yun, MD (Sept. 17), Medical Director of the Joint Replacement Program at Saint John’s, “Hip and Knee Surgery—Decision for Repair or Replacement,”

— orthopedic surgeon Rachel Triche, MD (Sept. 17), foot and ankle surgeon of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic at Saint John’s, “Common Conditions of the Foot and Ankle,”

— orthopedic surgeon Hyun Bae, MD (Sept. 18) spine surgeon, “Spine Disorders and Back Pain, including degenerative disc disease, injury, and scoliosis,”

— orthopedic surgeon M. Ramin Modabber, MD, (Sept. 18) hand, wrist, and shoulder surgeon with the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic at Saint John’s, “Hand, Wrist and Shoulder Disorders-including Sports Injuries.”

Physical therapist, Heather de Cordova, MPT, OCS, CSCS (Sept. 17 and 18) who is the Director of Rehabilitation Services and Performance Therapy at Saint John’s, will discuss “Flexibility, Core Strength, and Balance.”

This community forum is sponsored by The Flora L. Thornton Community Health Education Program and Saint John’s in cooperation with the Arthritis Foundation, Los Angeles Office. The program is open to any interested person.

Advance reservations are required, call 310.829.8453.
