St. Monica Sprints Past Mary Star Of The Sea: Boys’ basketball look strong after Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeat

St. Monica boys basketball team bounced back from the drubbing it took at Cathedral with a 74-54 victory Feb. 10 over Mary Star of the Sea to improve to 15-10 overall and 6-3 in league play on the season. 

The Mariners jumped out to a 26-12 first  quarter lead and never looked back. St. Monica claimed a 44-19 advantage at half over the Stars.

The Mariners were led by Senior Kaivon Simab who scored 20 points and had six rebounds and six assists.

He is the fourth Mariner this year to score over 20 points in a game. Dennis Ashley finished with 14 points and four assists, while Kavin Dotson and Spencer Gorman each had 11. 

St. Monica’s 7’2″ center Xiang Yu Meng scored eight points and produced two blocks during the game.

The Mariners finish the regular season on Wednesday night at home against Cantwell Sacred Heart and they will honor the team’s six seniors. 

The Mariners are currently in third place in the Camino Real League and ranked No.12 in the latest SCIBCA Division 4A poll.
