Bloomingdale’s Santa Monica Employees Arrested For Embezzlement Scheme:

A man and a woman from Pacific Palisades were arrested on Saturday, March 29 after being caught taking part in an embezzlement scheme at their work place, Bloomingdale’s Santa Monica.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called to Bloomingdale’s at 315 Colorado Avenue at 4:25 pm on this day in order to investigate a report of embezzlement.

When the officers arrived they spoke with the loss prevention agents of the store who told them that the two suspects were employees at the store.

The loss prevention agents added that these two suspects had been allegedly engaged in fraudulent activity that involved them purchasing various items and later refunding their own credit cards as if the items had been returned, but without actually returning said merchandise.

The loss prevention agents informed the officers that the estimated value of the fraudulent activity was in the region of $140,000.

The officers arrested this pair (a male aged 30 years and of Pacific Palisades, and a female aged 49, also of Pacific Palisades) and they were charged with embezzlement and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Bail information was not available.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
