Northbound Kanan-Dume Road In Malibu Closed Until 2pm Today:

One of the major roads out of Malibu will be closed today as the city repaves it. Northbound Kanan-Dume Road will be closed at Pacific Coast Highway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, weather permitting, as the realigned lane is repaved.

Drivers heading north from the Point Dume area will be detoured to Malibu Canyon Road, seven miles east.

The city is rebuilding a 25-year-old deep gravel arrester bed in the middle of the road, which is intended to give trucks and other large vehicles a way to stop at the bottom of an 8 percent downgrade.

The original arrester bed was installed after two fatal crashes were caused by runaway vehicles on Kanan-Dume at PCH.
