The Santa Monica Democratic Club will host a discussion of the upcoming election Healthcare Initiatives this Wednesday, July 30.
Executive Board members Dr. Sion Roy and Genise Schnitman will discuss initiatives proposing to change the malpractice cap and give Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones the authority to regulate insurance premiums prices — fundamental aspects of the Healthcare system.
The meeting will also discuss:
1) Endorsement of Ted Lieu for Congress (33rd Congressional District). There was no consensus at the last endorsement meeting.
2) Endorsement of Alex Padilla for Secretary of State. (The club endorsed Derek Cressman in the primary, but he is not in the runoff.)
Finally, the club will vote to approve a change to its bylaws.
Currently, a 60 percent majority is required to be endorsed by the club.
The club said it would like to change that number to a 55 percent majority to bring them more in line with most other Democratic Clubs.
Its bylaws can be viewed online at http://santamonicademocrats.com/wp-content/uploads/smdcbylaws.pdf.
The public is invited to this free event, light refreshments will be served, and there is free parking.
It will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 7 pm at Mt Olive Lutheran Hall, which is located at 14th Street and Ocean Park Boulevard, Santa Monica.
