UCLA Offers Emergency Financial Assistance To Water Main Flood Victims:

Employees and students of UCLA as well as others whose vehicles were damaged when a water main break sent about 20 million gallons onto the north side of the school’s campus are being offered emergency financial assistance.

The university is making interest-free loans of up to $5,000 available to about 100 employees, who will have two years to repay the money through payroll deductions, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Owners of 260 vehicles also got word this week that the UCLA Foundation will offer $55,649 — or $214 per vehicle — from a crowd-funded emergency relief fund to assist owners of damaged vehicles, the newspaper reported.

The floodwaters from the July 29 break stranded nearly 1,000 vehicles in two underground parking lots and damaged the nearly-new basketball floor at Pauley Pavilion, which had undergone a renovation completed in November 2012.
