The American Heart Association will host its second annual Heart Walk at the Santa Monica Pier this Sunday, Sept. 21. An estimated 5,000 people are expected to attend.
The Santa Monica Heart Walk, sponsored nationally by Subway and locally by Union Bank, UCLA Health and Huntington Hospital, is a non-competitive 5K that encourages healthy habits while raising funds to support the AHA’s research and education efforts to fight heart disease and stroke – the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
The event starts at 8 am at the Santa Monica Pier.
Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases claim the lives of more than 831,000 men, women and children every year.
The Heart Walk is an annual tradition that brings the community together to raise awareness and critical funds to fight these diseases.
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) believe that everyone deserves to live a healthier, longer life.
Life is Why the AHA/ASA is committed to the mission of building healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke, through cardiovascular research funding, patient care initiatives, health advocacy and community education.
