The Pedagogical Institute of Los Angeles, in collaboration with Evergreen Community School, First Presbyterian Nursery School, The New School-West, and Palisades Preschool, will host a two-day conference starting Friday called “Children as Producers of Culture: looking inward and outward.”
Housed in an industrial warehouse in Santa Monica, the Pedagogical Institute is a vibrant think tank connecting local and international early childhood educators through innovative programming, installations and documentation archives.
From formal lectures, to video labs, to community research forums, the Institute is the heart of a philosophic community committed to education and political reform.
The Pedagogical Institute started as a question: how can schools and their teachers give visibility to the vital role children play as members of a democratic community?
This question, never answered but always percolating beneath the surface, has fueled numerous endeavors.
On Feb. 27-28, 2015, the Institute’s conference will feature keynote speakers from around the globe, including the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Reggio Emilia Institute in Stockholm, and the director of early childhood education in Anji, China.
Attendees are also invited to participate in tours and workshops at each school. Nearly 250 educators, parents. and community members are already registered.
