Santa Monica Consent Calendar Round Up: Electrical Supplies, AC, Plumbing:

Santa Monica City Council approved a handful of consent calendar items at its Tuesday night meeting, including electrical supplies, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and water feature services. As these items generally do not need any discussion or debate, City Council typically approves all these items together without discussion or individual motions.

Electrical Supplies

Santa Monica is going local for their electrical equipment, hiring Electric Supply Connection, a West L.A.-based company. The purchases are for a variety of electrical supplies to maintain City facilities and service the City’s street lighting system. The amount is not to exceed $100,000 for one year, with one additional one-year renewal option with an increase based on market conditions for a total not to exceed $300,000 over three years, with future year funding contingent on Council budget approval.

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning

The City completes about 600 heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repairs each year.

The City will issue a purchase order with Howard Industries, a California-based company, for those heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units and supplies in an amount not to exceed $100,000 for one year, with one additional one-year renewal option with an increase based on manufacturer pricing for a total amount not to exceed $300,000 over a three year period.

Plumbing

City maintenance staff performs the majority of plumbing work at City facilities (more than 90 percent of approximately 1,500 work orders per year), but requires plumbing contractor services for larger jobs involving excavation (water and sewer line repairs/replacements), re-piping, and replacement/installation of various equipment including drinking fountains, restroom fixtures, and water heaters, according to the City.

The Lighthart Corporation will preform these larger repairs for the next two years in an amount not to exceed $200,000 each year.

Fourth Street Cinema

Allan D. Kotin & Associates will continue providing economic consulting services to support the city’s Fourth Street cinema project.

They will receive a contract modification that would extend the term of the contract until Dec. 31, 2019 in an amount not to exceed $130,000 for a total amount not to exceed $200,000.

Water Feature & Pond Maintenance Services

California Waters, a California-based company, will handle water feature and pond maintenance services in the amount of $117,162 for Fiscal Year 2015-16, with one additional one-year renewal option in the amount of $121,264.

The company will be in charge of taking care of areas like Tongva Park, where there are three water features. The City has a total of six water feature locations that will need looking after.

Body Repair & Painting For Transit Coaches

Carlos Guzman, Inc., another California-based company, will provide body repair and painting of transit coaches.

Body repair and painting of transit coaches are necessary to address normal wear and tear and accident damage during the 12-year useful life of a bus, according to staff.

The majority of the painting will be for Big Blue Bus, so a lot of the purchased paint will be none other than Big Blue Bus Blue. While the BBB staff performs minor body repairs in-house, the major accident and bus painting requirements exceed in-house body and repair capabilities for workspace and staffing levels. Guzman will provide the services for such situations.
