A rally honoring the World Cup-winning U.S. women’s soccer team will be held today at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
Gates will open at 9 a.m., with the rally set to start at 11 a.m. Free public parking will be offered after 9 a.m. in West Garage.
The event, which will be attended by all members of the team, is free to attend, but fans are being encouraged to RSVP online by filling out a registration form at www.lalive.com/forms/us-womens-soccer-rally.
The 23-player team includes seven players who played on the high school or college level in Los Angeles or Orange counties — defender Whitney Engen (Peninsula High School); midfielders Shannon Boxx (South Torrance High School) and Lauren Holiday (UCLA); and forwards Sydney Leroux (UCLA); Alex Morgan (Diamond Bar High School); Christen Press (Chadwick School); and Amy Rodriguez (Santa Margarita High School, USC).
The team arrived at Los Angeles International Airport aboard a chartered jet around 6:20 p.m. Monday, one day after beating Japan, 5-2, in the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia, avenging their loss to Japan in the 2011 final on penalty kicks.
