A Santa Monica woman received a huge fright after finding a man hiding in her bathroom on Friday, Nov. 6 with the man exclaiming, “gangsters are chasing me!”
At 6:40 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were alerted to a “hot prowl” that had just occurred in the 1400 block of Lincoln Blvd.
Upon arrival the officers interviewed the victim who told them that she had been visiting a friend in the apartment above hers for a period of just 10 minutes and had returned to her apartment where she initially did not notice anything amiss.
However, when she had walked past the bathroom she had heard a voice inside the bathroom but had still been unable to identify where the voice had been coming from.
She said that at that moment she had reached inside the bathroom to turn on the light when she heard the suspect say from inside the bathroom, “gangsters are chasing me!”
She said that at that point the suspect had ran out of her apartment and entered the alleyway behind the building.
The victim gave the officers a detailed description of the intruder and they wasted no time in locating this suspect in the alleyway.
The officers noticed that the suspect’s demeanor was not normal and the suspect claimed that he had been chased by “hundreds” of gang members and that is why he had sought sanctuary in the victim’s apartment.
The officers arrested this 29-year-old homeless man and he was later charged with residential burglary. Bail was set at $50,000.
