The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education has added two new public meetings for their confidential search for the next district superintendent and is seeking input from parents, teachers, students and community stakeholders.
A survey is posted on the district’s website and open for comments through July 14, 2016: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RGHZVSY
Two additional public meetings are planned for July 14, 2016:
Muir Elementary School cafetorium (2526 Sixth St., Santa Monica, CA) – 4:30-5:30pm
Malibu High School library (30215 Morning View Dr., Malibu, CA) – 4:30-5:30pm
Spanish translators will be available at both locations.
SMMUSD has engaged the services of Leadership Associates Executive Search Advisors to work with the board to conduct the recruitment and comprehensive search process in the selection of the district’s next leader. Community input about the desired personal and professional qualities anticipated in the incoming superintendent is valued and will be used to develop the recruitment criteria.
The consultants will be asking two primary questions during the input sessions: What are the desirable qualities, characteristics, background and experiences (professional and personal) for the next superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District? What do you see years ahead?
The advisors will compile a report of comments received during the community input sessions and from the survey results and share with the board to be used to guide the development of the recruitment brochure, the recruitment process, reference checking and ultimately the selection of a candidate.
Active recruitment for a permanent superintendent will take place in July and August, with an application deadline of mid-September. Candidates will be interviewed in October and the board will approve a contract at a November school board meeting. The new permanent superintendent will start in January 2017.
Co-interim superintendents have been appointed, effective July 1, 2016.
